BMW iX3 M Sport is Here

M Sport … a name that means so much, and one that conjures up images of BMWs flagship sportsters that just ooze style, heritage, and horsepower.

And yet, big V8s or V10s have no place here, this is all about electric power. While there may be a lack of fossil-fuelled muscle, there’s still 282 horsepower on tap, and we all love a bit of horsepower. To put that into perspective, the original fire-breathing M3 had just 197 horsepower.

With that in mind, you can see that BMW haven’t just used the M Sport moniker for a bit of cheap marketing.

M Sport & M Sport Pro iX3

It may seem strange that BMW have already updated the iX3 BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), after all, it was only launched a year ago, but the reasoning is simple – they want to keep the iX3 inline with the X3 timeline, and the X3 has just recently been updated. Makes sense really.

This means that there a few new updates which are common between the two models, but the most exciting news is that the iX3 ‘entry-level’ trim is full on M Sport, and there’s also the M Sport Pro. And that IS exciting.

Power remains the same (282hp), but that’s plenty enough for a 0-62mph dash in 6.8 seconds, an electronically limited top speed of 112mph, and a 286-mile range. Need a boost? A 10-80% charge takes just over half an hour.

M Sport Edition iX3

What does the M Sport badging give you? A well-specced car that includes 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, metallic paintwork, adaptive suspension, panoramic glass roof, electrically operated tailgate, heated sports steering wheel, 3-zone climate control with pre-conditioning.

Step up to the Pro version, and it just oozes toys – tinted headlamps, keyless go, acoustic glass, premium Harman/Kardon stereo, Heads-Up Display, gesture control, and parking assistant plus, which can park the car for you at the touch of a button.

The other changes include a slightly reworked and larger kidney grille, reshaped front bumper with a lower front splitter, slight alteration to the shape of the headlights, and few sporty touches like new gills on the front wings.

Inside the iX3

It’s not all exterior styling changes either – there’s an updated & upgraded infotainment system, a larger 12.3-inch screen, sports seating, and tweaked centre console. You could almost consider this as a MK II or second generation.

There aren’t any changes to the driveline or battery pack, but in all honesty, they weren’t needed. You still get the same 80kWh battery, and drive goes to the rear-wheels, although thanks to the design/engineering/magic, it doesn’t feel like a 282hp rear-wheel drive car.
